DIY Home: Chinese new Year Decorations

DIY Projects Feb 8, 2013

Many of you will be celebrating the Lunar (or Chinese) New Year in the next couple of days, and if you are – a hearty ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi!’ to you.  To be honest I’m a bit sad to see the end of the year of the Dragon, it felt special somehow and was definitely a year of discovery and awe inspiring experiences. However I’ve decided not to worry about the fact that according to Chinese Star Signs as a Tiger 2014 couldn’t come soon enough (you’re in better stead if you were born in the year of the dog or ox), and focus on the fact that we make our own luck. I’m hoping the proverbial ‘the harder you work the luckier you get’ applies. With that said I’m wishing you love, light – and in true Chinese style – wealth in the year of the Snake.

My friend Sam has been decorating her house for the occasion and made this adorable tassel and mini lantern branch hung from the wall, and I couldn’t help but share. Call it the Chinese equivalent of the christmas tree, (even though the real equivalent is a kumquat bush – so sad to see them discarded in the street after the celebrations are over). You can make your own tassels by following my directions here. I think it would work perfectly for any occasion!
