Being back in Hong Kong after my trip to Bali has been so nice, but there’s been quite a bit of work to do on my return. Meaning we’ve been spending every waking moment in the studio working – shooting projects, working on the blog schedule for the Spring and Summer season and developing a few new products for the store. It’s enjoyable but also a little exhausting (totally not complaining here!).
But with no proper kitchen in the studio, we often find ourselves grazing on giant boxes of almonds, with not that much substantial food in sight… So when Deliveroo recently asked us to join in their new campaign all about leaving it the professionals, we thought it would be a great opportunity to throw an Easter brunch in the studio for the whole team, and transform the space into something completely different! I’ve always wanted to create a boho inspired tented table and this was such a great opportunity – particularly given we didn’t have to worry about cooking (something that’s kinda impossible with only a very small sad microwave here).
DIY Indoor Canopy Brunch
- 3 x 10m lengths of sheer white fabric
- Fairy lights
To create the tent, you need to rig up two ropes above your table, running length ways. We had hooks in the ceiling which made this easy, but you can also hang them off picture rails or curtain rods. You’ll need to orientate your table to suit this!
Now you want to lay your fabric across the ropes. First hang the three sections length ways, and then overlap them so you create a continuous curtain feel.
We wanted to open up the tent a little, but this step is optional - it’s quite nice with the sides hanging straight down too. We used another piece of rope, running it inside the curtains and pulling them back, tying /taping the rope to the walls.
For the flowers we selected a mix of my favorites: protea, roses (treated with this Boutierre Girls technique) and eucalyptus in a mix of pinks and dark purples.
We also set up the nook at the head of the tent as a little break out space with cushions (see the DIY here), a Moroccan wedding blanket and some foot stools and flowers!
Onto the food! You guys know I’m all about delicious salads, so we were excited to use Deliveroo to order some yummy ones from The Winery – we chose their Heirloom Tomato Salad, the Quinoa and Haloumi Salad and the Roast Vegetable Salad. So much healthy goodness.We also got two delightful charcuterie boards which tasted so good with a variety of cheeses and meats, which I arranged on some ceramic platters.
For dessert we couldn’t go past my absolute favourite fig scones from Teakha, along with the watermelon and strawberry cake from Lifetastic and some petit fours from Ages B. So much deliciousness and I loved that we can still eat quite healthy, home style food even if we don’t have a kitchen, whether I’m in Hong Kong or down under in Australia. We then enjoyed some champagne, music and friends, and took time out in the little nook to have dessert and tea!
