Discovering New York With Bobbi Brown

New York, New York!

If you follow me on Instagram (check me out here!) you’ll remember that recently I traveled to New York to celebrate the launch of Bobbi Brown’s new Crushed Lip Color along with 25 other women from around the world. I’ve been a fan of Bobbi Brown products for a very long time (I remember my first beauty ‘splurge’ was a Shimmer Brick over a decade ago!) and so when they invited me to visit New York I was excited. And not just because I’m into the products, but because the focus of the event was to meet a host of different women who are ‘crushing it’ in their field – chefs, fashion designers, business owners, and foodies.

As someone who’s obsessed with creatives and what makes them tick (check out my recent interviews with Sophia Amoruso,  Tessa Perlow, and Windy Chien), you can imagine that I jumped at the chance. And I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys. So here goes!

Discovering New York With Bobbi Brown

The first night kicked off with cocktails and flower crown making in the garden of our hotel with the lovely jewelry designer Lulu Frost, and we learned all about the language of flowers. I’ll admit I was a little daunted by meeting so many women who were attending the event, but everyone was just so warm and welcoming it felt like home immediately.

The next day was jam-packed with activities and exploring. First up I met with the Bobbi Brown makeup artists who taught me all about the new lipstick formula, which keeps your lips hydrated using Vitamins E & C and beeswax. They also helped me experiment with a few different shades… I always reach for the same tones but after receiving the full 20 shades I was ready to experiment! I chose Regal for the day which is a slightly warmer red than I would usually wear but I loved it. I am also a huge fan of Bare which is the perfect accentuation to my natural lip color (and seemed to also suit everyone there!) and Tulleride. I then headed out for a shoot in Soho with my girl Zanita… It was so incredible to work with someone I’ve known for almost a decade on the other side of the world.

After a bit of a rest (bouncing around Soho takes it out of you!), we headed off to meet Yola Jimenez, the amazing woman behind Yola Mezcal, a mezcal brand bottled by women in the Oaxaca region of Mexico,  using a recipe passed down from Yola’s Grandfather. Today, they still follow the 300-year old method of traditional mezcal making and are committed to bettering the women of the region. Meeting Yola speak was so inspiring, and reminded me that it’s so important to invest in traditional creativity if you can and use our businesses to do good. Or both at the same time if you can. It was great to sample all the delicious cocktails too…

Always buzzing in NYC!

On the last day we headed to Williamsburg in Brooklyn for another action-packed day of meeting, eating and drinking… Three of my favorite activities so I wasn’t complaining! After visiting New York a few months ago and not being able to get a booking at Lilia I was excited to be able to step in the door finally – thanks to Bobbi Brown organising for us to meet and eat with the chefs at a lunch hosted by another inspirational woman, Jenna Lyons. After filling up on seriously delicious food and drinks (Lilia is going in my NY guide for sure!), I went with new friends Anna and Lily to tour Williamsburg and meet with women who have started creative businesses in the area – including the founders of Catbird, only my favourite jewelry store ever! That night we rounded out a truly inspirational event with a carnival-inspired soiree in Chelsea overlooking the Manhattan skyline.

Thanks for having me, Bobbi Brown! This post is in collaboration with Bobbi Brown.  Crushed Lip Color launches in Australia on October 3 at and Mecca Maxima.  You can learn more here.
