I couldn’t be more excited to share with you the first of a series of New York guides… Brooklyn!
For the last few years my brother and his wife have lived in New York, first in the East Village and then for a few years in the leafy Brooklyn neighbourhood of Park Slope. For that reason I feel like I’ve had a really amazing insider’s guide to Brooklyn, one of my favourite parts of the city. And in case you think Brooklyn is just the hip area of Williamsburg, think again. There is so much more to explore! If you’re at the start of planning your trip, check out this post!
New York Travel Guide: Brooklyn, Williamsburg & Dumbo
Stay
The Wythe Hotel, originally a textile factory in Williamsburg, has a stunning view over Manhattan. Make sure to also check out their rooftop cocktail bar, The Ides!
Or check out Brooklyn One, with another great rooftop located in Dumbo.
Eat & Drink
We had one of our favourite meals at St Anselm, a cosy, unassuming spot with an all women chef team. Grab a drink in the garden next door while you wait.
My brother and his wife swear by the Peruvian at Llama Inn, and I LOVED it.
Lilia is sooo hard to get into, with good reason. We had another delicious meal here!
Have the best pizza of your life in Bushwick at Roberta’s.
You’ll probably want to stop into the Toby’s Estate which is pretty much the epicentre of Williamsburg.
Designed by Home Studios, Sisters is great for either lunch, dinner or even cocktails.
In the mood for a good ol’ flat white or avo toast? Head to Sweatshop. An Australian inspired coffee shop in Williamsburg.
Grab some delicious Mexican at Park Life.
Drop into the courtyard of La Esquina (outpost of the famous ‘restaurant hidden behind a diner door’ in Soho).
Looking for a breakfast spot? Try out the Egg Shop!
Fancy a chocolate-y treat? Check out Mast Brothers.
Have another gastro pub style meal at Marlow & Sons.
On a nice day, a trip down to the waterfront at Smorgasburg is a must. Go with an empty belly, and expect crazy crowds and the newest of the new food fads.
