Upcycling an Old Office Chair

Home DIY Mar 30, 2021

And what do you know, another chair has joined my ‘no chair left behind’ collection.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I’m obsessed with rescuing old and tired chairs. When I saw this bright orange pleather office chair I knew it had the perfect bones for an upcycle.

You Need:

  • An old office chair
  • Screwdriver
  • Paint roller brush
  • White metal primer paint
  • British Paints Retro Peach paint
  • Gloves
  • An old sock
  • Twisted paper rope from Bunnings

How To

1

Take apart the old chair with screwdrivers so that the metal frame remains.

2

Apply a coat of white metal primer.

3

Apply a top coat of Retro Peach from British Paints. I used the 'odd sock' method for this to get a even coverage. Pop on a washing up glove, then a sock, and then apply the paint.

4

Tie one end of the twisted paper rope to the metal frame and then it's time to get weaving in a cross over style. Keep the rope taught at all times for the best finish.

This can take a while so get comfy in front of a TV series.

Do the same weaving on the back rest.

Like what you see? Or just want to save it for later?
