On to today’s DIY. I’m totally into anything convertible – dresses, tops and bodysuits… oh, except cars. I feel like I’m always the one sitting in the back seat with my knees around my chin…. Anyway, back to convertible of the clothing kind… Who doesn’t love the idea of clothing that can be worn 479024 ways, making it totally work for you. I wanted to share with you something I made a little while ago, and am getting loadssss of wear out of. Introducing, the convertible bodysuit.
Watch the video below to see three different ways to tie it!
DIY Convertible Bodysuit
You need:
- Jersey fabric (1.5m or 2yds)
- Pair of high waisted underwear
- Pins
- Scissors
- Sewing machine and thread
How to:
- Measure the width of the underwear when stretched and dividing this measurement in half, measure two strips of jersey the same width (mine were 23cm wide)
2. Cut out the two strips of jersey, trimming the ends to straighten if necessary.
3. Stretch the underwear over the width of jersey and pin at the sides and half way. Repeat this for the other side.
4. Sew the end of the jersey strip onto the top of the underwear, stretching the jersey as you sew.
5. By stretching the fabric in the sewing machine you should end up with nice gathers when the fabric is relaxed.
All done! The only tricky part about the style is there aren’t any crotch snaps, so you have to take it off when you go to the bathroom… But not such a bad thing considering how easy it is to make!
These are just some of the millions of ways you can tie this bodysuit, head up to the video above to see how I did these.
If you use high waisted swim bottoms you can even wear this bodysuit as a one piece swimsuit….. Or wear with jeans in the colder months, so so versatile this piece!
