12 Projects To Do Using Supplies You (Probably) Already Have

DIY Projects Mar 16, 2020

It’s difficult to understate how strange and scary the world feels right now. As many of us move towards social distancing (or are deep in it), I’ve been thinking about what we will be able to do to keep ourselves sane.

Binge watching some sort of Jane Austen period drama seems like a good start. As does stress eating cheese on the sofa. But honestly, the only way I think I’m going to be able to stay happy is to make things.  It’s honestly the best way to distract yourself and give yourself some physical therapy at the same time. Feeling low? Paint something. Stressed out? Learn a new knot!  Because getting out of the house might be hard, I’ve rounded up a bunch of projects to keep you busy, using materials you might have lying around.

Rope

If you’re looking for a project that will not only calm your anxiety but also kill a bit of time, look no further than macrame. First, you should brush up on your knots. Check out our ultimate guide to knots here. Then, you should move onto the projects listed below. Enjoy!

Paint

I’m going to say it again… Paint TRANSFORMS a space. Or a vase. Or a shelf. Or a cupboard. You know I’m a paint addict, mainly because it’s a really easy way to get creative without having to have any major skills or materials. So hopefully you’ve got a few cans at home to experiment with.

Clay

I’m such a big fan of clay for the sheer number of projects you can make using it. I like polymer clay that gives a smooth finish and is really simple to work with and clean up, but regular clay would work for these projects too. This might not be something you have on hand, but it’s available online and keeps for ages!

Make This: Clay Fridge Magnets, Clay Rainbow Mobile, Clay Wall Hanging

Leather

The best thing about leather projects, is that you can scavenge leather from lots of places – old chairs, craft stores and probably your own cupboard.  A little leather goes a lonnnggg way too!

Make this: Leather Hanging Shelf, Leather Wrapped Vases, DIY Leather coasters
