2020 has been, well, not what anyone expected. And so much of it has been tough. But one thing that has come out of these strange times is lots of amazing DIY projects. With so much time at home it’s no surprise that we’ve been getting creative in order to stay sane.
I’ve noticed lots of different DIY ideas that keep cropping up, making me think they’re great trends that everyone needs to try. Here are my faves.
The Foam Mirror
Inspired by a Scandinavian design, Lil Ahenkan was the first person to create her own version of a bubblegum pink foam mirror. Since then, the foam mirror has been recreated thousands of times, in part because it’s so easy and also because it has the perfect aesthetic for 2020.
Creative Embroidery
Tik tok has driven so many people to take up embroidery, with videos of people using it in surprising and chic ways going viral on the app. I love the idea of embroidering something that’s usually more masculine, like this Nike Logo.
Tie Dye
You won’t be surprised that Tie Dye is on this list, with just about everyone and their dog having a go at tie dying their own matching set. I am just be the only person in lock down who hasn’t tie dyed anything, although I have a feeling there will be plenty more time to give it a try. This tissue paper method looks so fun!
Trash To Terracotta
Clearly I wasn’t going to skip my own project for this list, was I?! Since I first started transforming thrifted vases in December 2019, I have to say Trash to Terracotta has gained more momentum than I could have imagined, with thousands of remakes, hundreds of videos shared and many, many vases saved from obscurity. Have you tried it yet?!
