Hey guys! In one of the last instalments of my recent Creative Escape to Bali, I’m excited to share with you a little stopover we did in Uluwatu.
You’ll notice that the recommendations section of this guide isn’t as long as some of the others in this series, but don’t let that put you off going to Uluwatu. The very fact that there’s not 390823 restaurants that you simply must try makes it what is it… A truly relaxing place to hang out and wind down – it was the downtime portion of our creative escape. I mean, I’m a culprit when it comes to wanting to see and do everything, even in what is supposed to be an easy going place like Bali. But the best thing about Uluwatu is that your to do list is delightfully short – sunrise yoga, dips in the ocean and gorging on yummy food. Top it off with sundowners and that’s about as full as your day will get. Unless, of course, you’re an avid surfer in which case you’ll be wrestling with the ocean the whole time!
Uluwatu Travel Guide
Stay
We stayed at a really cool hotel called Suarga – it felt quite hidden and relaxed. My friend also loves The Temple Lodge for something more rustic and low key.
See & Do
Ok so you’re probably in Uluwatu for the beaches, and my favourite were Pagang Padang Beach, Bingin Beach and Sulaban Beach. All of these have lovely rocky outcrops and are great for taking pictures at low tide. Wake early so you have them all to yourself!
Visit the gorgeous Uluwatu Temple, around sunset is a great time to go.
Do some yoga lessons at Uluwatu Surf Villas.
Have a day at one of the beach clubs, my pick is Sundays Beach Club. Hire a lounger and spend all day there. They do a bonfire on the beach too later on.
Eat & Drink
Near Uluwatu Temple you will find a cluster of restaurants at Blue Point Beach. This includes Single Fin (previous home to Nalu bowls) and a number of local places down the cliff closer to the water. This is a lovely spot for sunset. They do a great Sunday session too!
On the road towards Padang Padang beach is Bukit Cafe, a lovely cafe with yummy breakfasts and lunches.
If you’re into something a little more fancy, try Balique.
If you’re tired of Balinese food (I never am!) try El Kabron, Spanish on the clifftop.
The food at our hotel Suarga was really nice too if you’re looking for a romantic place to have dinner!
