Make this DIY Lace Insert Romper

DIY Fashion Jun 30, 2019

Long time readers of my blog will know that one of my first and greatest loves is transforming clothes that I find in thrift shops.

This is how I had my start in ‘fashion’, when I was young and used to go to the thrift store and transform my clothes using scissors and a sewing machine. One of my favourite projects is adding lace to tops or dresses, the way it sits against the skin can add elegance to even something really simple. Such as this romper! The best part about this project is that it’s also great for not only updating the aesthetics of your piece, but adding comfort too. I mean, we’ve all been there, a romper that’s just not *quite* long enough in the torso, making it down right uncomfortable to sit down. This lace insert romper means you can add much needed length in the waist, and make your romper much more wearable.

Before & After
How to

1

Unpick the waist seam, or in our case, the existing waistband.

2

Once unpicked, clean up any lose threads from around the waist. It's important to remember to keep the zipper intact!

3

Using the existing waistband as a guide (or using the measurement around the waist), cut a piece of lace to the same length. If you want to add some extra room in the torso, this is where you should opt for a wider piece of lace fabric.

4

Pin and sew the lace to the top half of the garment all the way around the waist.

5

Similarly, pin and sew the other side of the lace to the bottom half of the garment.

6

Pin and sew the lace to the zipper to secure and create a clean edge.

Finished!
