Hey guys! I’ve missed sharing my inspiration here, if you’ll remember at the start of this blog it was basically all I did! So today, I would love to hear your thoughts on arched interiors!
Over time we’ve moved towards more and more original content, butĀ I thought with the renovation projectĀ happening it would be really fun to share more of the BTS, or rather the IMB (in my brain), for this project… I’ve really enjoyed getting your opinion on various elements of the house, and hearing your thoughts and what you would do. It turns out so many of you have renovated or a tres design savvy, so it would be stupid not to tap into that for my own personal gain (muhaha).
Arched Interiors: Yar or Nay?
First up, arched details. Arches of all types are something that I have loved for so soĀ long, so when the chance to create our own design came up I obviously immediately referred back to my overflowing Pinterest boards that are full to the brim with arches. As you can see there are so many different ways to use arches, and although they have traditionally been used for doorways they can be seen across the board in nooks, mirrors and cabinetry.Ā The challenge we for our renovation is that our cottage is a traditional Australian style, and therefore not something that would usually have arches. Cue chin scratch.
Question
Yay or nay on the arched details? Would you have them at your house? Or perhaps you think they urgent iteration in design is already overdone (that’s Ben’s feeling – he’s always an early adopter and thus early rejector. And I agree Iām seeing them everywhere but I donāt mind that…). Ā I personally love them but I do recognise that they probably donāt suit all architectural styles… Ā If we did use some sort of arch I’m thinking we could perhaps go with a more subtle arch, using paint or something like that… I’ve actually stumbled upon one little solution that I like, will be sharing more soon!

Love all of the inspiration for the arches! The fireplace is especially interesting. I gotta say, I see what Ben means about arches starting to be overdone, but being an architect, to me they are timeless and create a sense of entry that’s lacking in most square openings.
I think the best use in a renovation would actually be if you had just the one arch in the house so it’s unique to that part of the house and is something surprising, something guests wouldn’t necessarily expect. It would be cool as an entry either to the dining or to the living room – I can’t remember the layout of your house, but I feel like the best use would be if you were going from a tighter space (like a hallway) into a wide-open space (such as a living room).
Plus, think of the great photos you can take with an arch š
Hahahaha you read my mind re the photos. Obviously arches are a classic design feature but I guess what Ben means is that they are starting to be done a lot in newer designs (which I understand because they’re beautiful) and I guess he doesn’t want to do anything too trendy… Hahaha.
I LOVE the arches! It adds such an effortless sense of history and sophistication to a room.
I couldnt agree more!
I was literally just telling my parents how much I love CURVES and that one day when I’m not renting, but rather if I ever own a house (difficult with the prices in Toronto here…) I’d absolutely get some curves and arches into my space! The idea of a painted arch seems like a nice, less-committed way to do it incase the trend “fades”… but I think they’re pretty timeless š
Yes totally, theres a few options for testing out the trend isn’t there?
Love arches, I have a few in my home. We’ve only owned our house for the past 8yrs. In our previous house we had arches (niche’s in the walls for art), entry ways to the kitchen, living room and master bedroom, bath. I don’t really care for the arched door.
Oh thats so interesting, I love how there are so many ways to integrate the arch.
I really quite like arches but if you donāt want to commit have you thought about a long mirror with an arched top? Placed on a wall at the end of a white hallway it reflects the shape and can suggest the arches are present but easy to remove if you get over the look.
This is a great idea!
I LOVEEEEE this idea!
Absolutely, totally, 100% yay! I love arches!
Hahaha me toooo
I am going to have to say yay! There is just this sort of elegant when it comes to an arch

Yes to arches! They have such a classy, elegant feel and add interest to the architecture of a house without being over the top.
Thanks my love!
Yes to one arch or maybe 2
Totally right?
Yes thats the issue I think… It all depends on how you integrate the look doesnt it?
Yes thats what Ben says!
Awww how amazing.
