Chain is one of my favourite materials to work with, perfect for this season’s love affair with grunge. The best thing about using chain in your projects is that it can be added in so many simple ways, be it a handmade necklace for that ghetto chic touch, or delicate chain sewed to a tee for something a little more subtle. I recently took some time to get a little crafty with some curb chain, read on to see how you can do the same!
You need:
- a pair of simple flats
- half a metre of curb chain
- super glue
- a needle and thread matching your flats
How to:
1. Start by measuring how much chain you will need for each flat. When you have worked that out, separate what you need by using pliers to open the chain at the appropriate link.
2. Thread your needle and tie a knot in the end. Lay the chain on top and sew the end to the strap by sewing through the leather and back around again.
3. Once one end is attached, cover the underside in glue.
4. Press it down onto the leather strap and then sew the other end of the chain down. Repeat for the other flat and leave overnight to dry.
Voila!

Beautiful!
Last month I gave away my 4 years old chain heeled sandals. because they didn’t have strap around the ankle and were like slip-ons. I always had this feeling that you will come up with a DIY that can help me put a strap/spport around them so that I can continue wearing them. Alas that didn’t happen. But this DIY indeed is great!

Hey Geneva!
I’m a big big fan of yours and your blog’s, Its reaaaally amazing!
My only problem is that I’ve been trying for some time now find many of the materials you use in your diys, but just can’t! Also, can’t find your book anywhere and I would really like to buy it!
Well, my bottom line is: could you please do me a kindness and indicate (if you know any) website that ships these things to Brazil?
Thank you so much for so many incredible posts!
Best wishes!!!

Very chic this look! I wonder if the jewelry element will last given you wear them out in wind and weather.. but it looks fabulous that’s for sure!

Geneva, this is an old post, but it’s one of my favorites! It’s such a simple idea, and I think DIY fashion should be simple. Most of us don’t have time to do elaborate re-fashions, so I like the easy ones. thanks for the idea
