Rugs. Would it be a bit crazy for me to say that they make a space? Probably not because I think I’ve already said it. Grand (and true) statements aside, isn’t it fitting that the items that make a space, are often the ones that are the hardest to actually make yourself? (I’m looking at you Scando furniture and Kilims). But apparently not for some. In a truly unexpected and lovely gesture, recently my boyfriend’s mum sent us this amazing patchwork rug that she made. All the way from down under no less! The shipping alone would have been eye watering.
Turns out, Margaret sewed this patchwork style rug using pieces of thick Kilim she had in the form upholstery fabric samples. Genius right? In order to put it together, first she sewed a blanket stitch all the way around each rectangle so that they wouldn’t fray too much, and then sewed it all together along the blanket stitch. Time consuming but worth it right? Love!
